The provision of public services is unique. No other sector is in a position where it is obliged to service a multitude of diverse needs of its customers. In the UK alone, there are over 62 million people who can, at any one given time, place demands on the public sector and its services. Globally, this means a customer base of billions. The key driver for the future lies in finding different and more innovative ways to deliver all types of public services from education, health, local services, transportation, policing, environmental, border control and defence. In addition, this must all be delivered in a more cost efficient manner while improving the quality of the service provided.
